Thinking of ordering a few comics from this site, has anyone here ordered from this site before? If so, what was your experience? Are the grades accurate??

This is their grading scale...

If their grading is this tight and accurate I am very interested in buying from them. But I would like to hear some reviews first.

Stephen & Sharon Ritter is Worldwide Comics. Stephen a long time dealer with a solid reputation. He used to be partnered with Matt Nelson and shared office space in the Metroplex before Matt moved to Florida to join CGC. Stephen is also one of the big league booth dealers, setting up at major conventions like SDCC, Chicago Wizard, NYCC, etc., before the pandemic. I've purchased books from Stephen in the past and never had a problem. Based on my impressions he's a tight grader and straight shooter business-wise.

in 2014 I bought a raw Mad #3 that was graded by them as 8.5, sent in for slabbing and came back 8.5

bought from them - if you make larger purchases they will negotiate - experience is they are within the ballpark - but don’t expect mcs grading

I've bought books from them at conventions. They're actually one of the vendors I look forward to seeing at shows. Always felt like the grading was good and nice to deal with.

I've purchased from them a number of times over the years. I've always had good luck with them and will use them again in the future.

Only 43 different grading levels on that chart??? Might as well go to a 1-100 scale.

Do you need a GD++ and all those other fictional mid-grades like 3.0/3.5? You couldn't figure out which bucket it goes in?

On the upper end, they are basically adding 9.7's, 9.5's, 9.3's, and 9.1's. It's bad enough in the 9's as it is now.

@chester15 I get what you're saying but I'm also thinking that from the sellers perspective it could be a pretty good idea. When you go in-between grades such as VG/VG- you can get it right 2 different ways if someone gets the book slabbed. Their saying that it might grade 4.0 or it might grade 3.5. I would guess that by doing it this way their grade range gets confirmed maybe 80-90% of the time by the grading companies. Now my question would be how often does the in-between grade come out on the high side and how often does it grade out on the low side.

I hear what you are saying, but they are trying to get too "fine" on specifying a grade. As it is now, if you handed 5 different people what you perceived to be a 4.0 and asked them to grade it, you would get responses ranging from 3.5 to 4.5, and maybe even an outlier. As evidence, the boardies here are asked their opinions on comics frequently, grade my comic, and you see the range of opinions.

This fictional 3.5/4.0 is effectively 3.75. This is no better than the cva thing that said you had a "high level 3.5", not your pedestrian 3.5 but one a bit higher, bordering on 4.0. I guess on a $300,000 comic, it makes a difference. But even then, you have to have the trifecta of agreement - the grading company's opinion, the seller's opinion, and most importantly the buyer's opinion, all lining up like the Great Conjunction.

And the hairs split between 9.4-9.8 now will get even crazier when you add every decimal in between. It's just over the top.

@chester15 It's funny that we see it kind of the opposite. As a sales guy it immediately struck me as a clever way of refusing to split hairs or get too fine...while looking like you are doing just that. If I grade something at 3.75 it appears that I have declined to chose 3.5 or 4.0 because they were not exact enough, while in fact I have chosen both of them as my predicted result.

I sell everything I buy, so I guess that makes me a sales guy, too. The last thing I want to do is grade something so specifically. You are always held to your grade, so the smaller the increments, the more likely the disagreement.

For example, if there were only 3 grades, terrible - ok - super, chances are all could agree which bucket it is in. Conversely, the more degrees you add, the more disagreement you foster.

And it is just this type of varying ways to look at grading that forged the way for grading companies. People will rarely agree, so they need an umpire.

This is the first time I'm aware of the site and I'm glad I was made aware. I was just about to order some Golden Age books from them tonight when I remembered that the MCS Prime auction ends starting tomorrow. Gonna have to hold my ammo until Thursday or Friday.
