Online stores - did sales hit a brick wall this week?12565

“Predator dick, pops into my head, naked cover” should never be used in the same paragraph. Ever ever.

Perhaps sales are dipping because people are busy buying stuff for their kids for back to school?

In general, don't sales fall during the summer anyway? People are outside more. It picks back up during the holidays.

My sales have picked up this week, actually. Mostly small stuff, and nothing more than $300, but I've had eight or nine sales over the last week and a half.

No drop off yet. Sales this week included a copy of TTA # 27.

Seems like the typical yearly pattern to me. Sales are high during the summer months, then cool off during the fall and winter, pick back up by Christmas time, then fall flat again in Jan-Feb until Tax Return season then another push in sales until May. Then starts over again with high sales numbers and volumes during June-July months.

@BrianGreensnips you were positive and the rest of your family remained negative. On the other hand I remained negative while my whole family was positive. Your family and I should write a book.. “How to remain negative while those around you are positive”.
You’re right about way too much TV. We had to quarantine 21 days because of staggered testing dates. By about day 7 nobody really wanted to get up in the morning or turn off the tv at night. Thank goodness I had the forum and MCS. I think near the end I did five nights in a row of ordering books from MCS.

@EbaySeller I PM you too. My wife and daughter were my champions. They brought me water, food, vitamins, and sometimes a treat like ice cream or a hot Tim Hortons coffee. They would leave it on trays outside my door. When done I would wash all my dishes in the bathroom sink along with wipes on certain things. Then put everything into a plastic garbage bag. From there my wife would put all of it into the dishwasher. This went on for 14 days. I literally did not see anyone in person that whole time. I can just imagine what your family went through. I was so happy when the health department gave me the clear of being in isolation. It is good to be back to my normal life now. My asshole coworker was all bitter and said I had a 2 week vacation. Such an A hole.

@BrianGreensnips your ordeal was much more serious and scary than ours. Our situation was almost laughable except for the psychological side of it. I didn’t want to talk to anyone who lived near us so I would get into the car and drive out of the neighborhood to get groceries or Walk the dogs or just to get out of the house during the day. I felt like a Vampire hiding during daylight and only walking the neighborhood at night. After all, what do you say to a neighbor who starts walking towards you when your family is quarantined? And the dogs need to go out 3 times a day. Kind of laughable, but less so in the moment.

@kaptainmyke I think the seasonal drop typically has come from SDCC which would wrap up the selling season. I always figured it was the Jan/feb summer movie previews that restarted the selling season. Not sure if I was correct, but all that is disrupted this year. So if my theory is correct, we may not see the normal seasonality that we would expect to see.

I'm just assuming the slight uptick I've seen in the past 24 hours is a result of ebay's 5% bucks offer going on. Right now pacing to go over my monthly sales average 11 days in.

I finally got a little spurt, after a dry spell, and sold these on Aug 8, 9, and 10, respectively. Also, another 25 were finally entered yesterday, and 37 more are being processed currently. So that will get my total inventory back over 200 slabs.

Okay, sales are remaining steady, thankfully, and it is looking more and more like the lull was just a (very) temporary hitch. Current inventory is now 182 slabs for sale, 16 for next week's auction (separate post coming soon!), 10 still in processing, and four more sales in three days. They are:

X-Men #2 9.8 with a beautiful Shannon Maer cover - $74.95, Aug 11
Star #1 9.8 Jee-Hyung Lee variant cover - $89.99, Aug 13
Star #2 9.8 1:25 Kirbi Fagan cover - $89.99, Aug 13
Hell Arisen #3 9.8 First full appearance of Punchline - $199.99, Aug 13

That last has seen a LOT of sales on ebay lately, and the price jumped from around $200 to around $250 in a matter of days. Maybe because of the Punchline one-shot just announced? Anyway, I always thought HA3 should be more expensive than the Batman #89, since it is a full appearance (and not just the bottom half of her face in one panel) and a much smaller print run. But it wasn't until the last couple of days that sales (price and quantity) have passed Batman #89.

I'm thinking of pulling the two 9.6's I have for sale, actually, for a CPR. These were originally graded without a press. I'm pretty sure they would easily bump to 9.8's. It's definitely worth the extra $100 or so, but I'm not sure if it's worth the ~4 month wait. Anyway, I'm on the fence about it.

But I did just raise my prices on my last three HA3's (cover A) and my two Batman #89 cover A's.

FYI - MyComicShop did have five or six copies of Batman #89, all graded CBCS 9.8. They have now sold all but one, for $120 each - three in July and one in August. So, if anyone wants a high-grade copy of this comic, you should jump on that last one. MCS's algorithm hasn't changed the price yet. So this copy is about $80-$100 underpriced.

I think part of the price difference (between their own copies and the consignment copies) is explained by the market reluctance on the CBCS slabs ... something that doesn't really affect this crowd. But mostly it's just that consignment books are highlighted in yellow and MCS books are not. That highlight gives consignments a significant advantage, I think. I have often seen consignment books sell faster, and for more money, than MCS books, regardless of the grading company used.

Anyway, last listed sales for the CGC 9.8's are: $195, $210, $160, and $170. I think one or two others have sold and not listed in "previous sales" yet. Current prices are: $225, $230, $240, $260, plus the CBCS 9.8 at $120.

Where are all those book going? Comic Link's last auction had to run longer than usual due to the number of books being sold.

@Towmater my guess is a combination of stimulus money, a lack of conventions, and a lack of competing entertainment (movies, concerts, sports) while it's still perfectly easy to buy comics online.

I saw that one! Congrats on the good price. I just put two at 9.6 up, but I went higher. I wanted to be higher than everyone else, at least at first, so I put one at $799, and one to auction this week. The others for sale are: 9.6 SS for $725, 9.6 for $750, 9.4 for $595, and a raw 8.5 at auction this week.

I'll drop mine quick, I reckon, after the auction, because all those prices are too high to sell right now. They are priced to catch an increase, in case this book starts going up again. But I didn't want to be rude and undercut the other prices right off the bat.

Darn it, I have NOT been able to get a 9.8 on that issue, yet. Just heard about two others, too, and both are 9.6. Driving me nuts. (I want one 9.8 for my PC, and then I don't care, I'll sell the rest. But so far, I've only got 9.6's.)

I definitely had mixed emotions about the sale. But I also felt a twinge of pain for the poor college student who sold it to me on Ebay 8 months ago for $165. He couldn't have netted more than $150 after selling fees.

Another sale today ... I've talked about this one before: Something Is Killing The Children #1 9.8 Cover A, this comic is HOT.

Previous sales were:
May 6 (9.8) $120
July 15 (9.8) $250
July 22 (9.8) $270
July 29 (9.6) $180

This one I just priced last night and decided to go high at $349.99 (!) and it sold in one day. Also, it sold via eBay, so the buyer actually paid $400 plus tax, etc. Crazy, eh?

It's a good comic with a good story and fun art, and it's been optioned for a Netflix series. Well, I guess something happened this week? Who knows. I have three more in the pipeline but don't know the grades yet. Cover B and cover C sell pretty good, too, but not as high as A. I'm going to buy some more raw on eBay right now ... 'cause you gotta ride that horse 'til she bucks ya.
