I know books that have the date stamp on them don’t get hit much, if at all But this book, the Stamp has the complete name and address of said store on the front cover Would that be treated like a date stamp or writing on cover |

Small inconspicuous have almost no hit......suppose it really comes down to how much of an eyesore the stamp is. With the whole store name etc. I would expect a couple points hit- 8 or 8.5 tops? |

I’m not sure how it affects the grade but it does happen fairly often with Free Comic Book Day books, that have a spot specifically for a store stamp![]() ![]() |

Yeah The stamp is about in the same place, and size Seeing that the cover is white its very Off-putting But it’s a book I’m looking for at a decent price ![]() Not sure what direction to go with this |

Here’s the main deal...ink stamps do not damage the paper, so dates and minimal info cause a minor deduction that essentially does not matter below 9.0; larger stamps on the cover or stamps on the pages detract from the esthetics, so they get larger deductions, but it still might only be 1/2 point per stamp.

Some people collect date stamp and store stamp books. Some are fairly neat.

I can roll with some date stamps, newsagent stamps, and some store stamps. Some of the store stamps are gaudy and distracting. Those I'll avoid. It's really on a stamp by stamp basis.

Here is one of my favorite high-grade Silver Age comics ... a 9.6, even with a prominent date stamp. Notice the official publication date is "1/68," but the actual arrival date is Nov 8 1967. Isn't that cool? ![]() |

When I first went in and graded all my books about 10 years ago, I was ignorant to date stamps / penciled stamps didn't necessarily effect the grade. I counted it as writing on the cover and gave it a much lower grade. I'm now realizing that I have quite a few older books worth a lot more than I originally thought. I just have to go back and reevaluate them. As far as store stamps, on one hand, it's kind of adds to the history of that individual book. To see where it came from 45-50 years ago. It's not what I personally want on my books, though. |

I'm still looking for a reasonably-price, high-grade copy of this one, for a couple years now. Usually it is one or the other, but not both. (High grade for me = 9.4 or 9.6 candidates. VERY hard to come by.) Quote: Originally Posted by doog |

The highest grade I have received from CBCS on a book with a date stamp on the cover is 9.6. The stamp is listed as a defect on the Grader's Notes. Two examples:![]() ![]() |
