Anything off that comic book diversion thread. I’ve never seen a lot of that stuff. And a shameless plug for @BrianGreensnips, he has prints of Wrightsons all which are from the same series.

@GAC - He did some amazing horror covers (and some interior work too) for House of Mystery and House of Secrets. Here's a cover shot of a book that now belongs to @HeinzDad.![]() |

@GAC This in my opinion is a must read. It came out in 2012 and it is a 4 book set. The artwork and full splash pages are amazing. He had another artist help finish the 4 book as he was getting pretty sick by this time. I have covers to show of #1 and #2 from my extra copies. A few inside pages here too. It just blows me away. ![]() ![]() |

The copy of HOM #186 I posted several days ago in my Cabin Fever thread has a 10-page Wrightson story (and a 12-pages one by Adams). I could post about a dozen more HOM/HOS issues if there is any interest.

HoS 92 and Swamp Thing 1 are the two cliche Wrightson books that are the most valuable. However there are a number of Wrightson cover books that have much better covers, and if you want a challenge, many of these are very tough to find in high grade. A few books that come to mind... House of Secrets 94, 96, 106 House of Mystery 236, 256 DC 100 Page Super Spectacular 4 Secrets of Haunted House 44 Weird Mystery Tales 21 Web of Horror 3 (Magazine, but his very first cover.) |

Very new, and likely in high quality. GL is my favorite so I really liked Green Lantern Annual #7. It's the only Wrightson book I had in my collection when I met him. https://cloud.collectorz.com/mcf/comics/detail/1194969 Edit: Not saying it's his best work or anything, but he actually blended three different art styles on this cover I thought was pretty impressive. Kilowog and Tomar-Re are more his traditional; it's set in space and Kyle has a more typical comic cover look to him. |

These are the two front runners for my search: - House of Secrets 94 slabbed higher grade (with or without SS/VSP) - Swamp Thing 1st series slabbed higher grade with VSP/SS signature. The price I find for the two options above will determine which one I buy. Honourable Mention: Thank you to @BrianGreensnips for recommending Frankenstein Alive! Alive! I'm not a collector of modern books but this could be the exception. Its brilliant work that I'll probably pick up after I get a bronze age Bernie book. Thanks everyone!! |

Quote:Originally Posted by HeinzDad That particular book actually has an interesting story. Almost 20 years ago I was on the hunt for a nice copy of House of Secrets 94 because it is my all time favorite Wrightson cover. During my search, I quickly realized how tough the book is to find in high grade. A very good friend of mine (and fellow Wrightson collector) found out how badly I wanted a copy, and offered to sell me his personal copy, which ended my quest because it was the right copy from a dear friend, making it one of the most prized books in my collection. A few years later I was going through divorce and my world was in complete chaos. At this time I liquidated every comic I owned aside from about 30 books that were dear to me...or otherwise worthless to anyone BUT me. This book was one of the books I kept. At least I thought it was. A few years later when I finally had my wits about me enough to start being interested in comics again, I noticed that my House of Secrets 94 was gone. I couldn't remember selling it...but it was gone. Several years pass. I've moved across the US twice, and for the first time in my life I had a chance to get a few books signed by Wrightson...but I only had a few weeks to find the right books. The one comic I wanted to have signed more than anything was a HoS 94 but I had never replaced my old copy. In my opinion, HoS 94 is one of the toughest Bronze-Age horror comics to find in high grade. I looked all over and the few decent copies I could find were ridiculously expensive. Still financially recovering from my divorce, there was no way in hell could I afford to buy a high grade copy of the book AND be able to get it signed and slabbed. With only days to spare I'd already settled on a few other books to have signed and had completely given up on finding a HoS 94. One of my best friends in the world from my old home-town owns a comic shop, and although I know almost every book in his store like the back of my hand, he does acquire nice books from time to time so I thought I'd give him a call in a last ditch effort to pull a rabbit from the hat. He says, "I don't remember having one but let me look in my computer. I just finished inventorying all the back issues in my store and have them in a spreadsheet." He says, "Yeah, I have a copy. Hang on and I'll go pull it and see what it looks like." I'm thinking...6.0? 7.0? Nah...probably 4.0 or so. At this point, I'll just have to settle for what he has. He comes back to the phone and says, "Wow, this one was in a Mylite 2." Then he pulls the book out and says, "Wow, it has not one but TWO Fullbacks behind it. Someone really loved this book." Then he opens the book and says, "This book is nice. Holy shit, someone even went to the trouble of putting acid buffer sheets behind the covers." At this point, I'm on the phone in disbelief. Then he goes silent for a second and then says, "Wait a minute. Do you know where I got this book? When you were getting divorced you brought several boxes of junk comics in here and I bought them from you. This book was in there with them." I was completely in shock. He found my missing book! With tears in my eyes, I asked how much he wanted for it. I'd buy it back. He says, "Hell, I'll just mail it to you free of charge. It belongs with you." I almost sobbed. ...And now almost two decades later, that book traveled through the hands of two incredible friends, was signed by my favorite artist, and has an AWESOME story. I'll keep it until I die. My wife can sell it. ![]() ![]() |
