Creator vanity labels might be kinda cool...Kirby, Wrightson etc. Lee already has one with SS CGC.

I'd love a VSP Kirby vanity label on my;

Yeah, I’m aware of the inconsistencies in their census. There’s an ongoing discussion about this on their GA board right now. So far no one has been able to address those concerns to my satisfaction (after my last post on this topic you could hear crickets).

I suppose some folks will always embrace CGC census numbers as accurate in spite of the crack-out and press culture, assuming the old labels are sent back and entries changed even when there’s little evidence to support it.

Hope springs eternal that some sort of peaceful coexistence can be brokered between these two critical businesses for the long term vitality of the hobby.
.

Cat- When we 1st opened CBCS, we wanted to do the right thing for the community. I called Matt Nelson and we started sending CGC labels back to them and Matt sent CBCS labels back to us. CGC stopped sending them back to us. I had a few friends call CGC and ask if they were sending back labels. The answer they got was "We throw them out.". So we stopped sending CGC labels to take off their census. We still have our re-submitted labels so that we can try to keep the CBCS census as correct as possible. CGC just does not care at this point in time....

So the CGC census isn’t really all that accurate then.
Close but no cigar in other words

Then the question arises
When you reslab or regrade a Previously slabbed & graded CGC book will you enter it into the CBCS Census.

And

What if you add a signature to a already slabbed CBCS book and yellow or red label it
Will the CBCS Census be adjusted. In other will the blue label be removed and the red or yellow replace it.

And then what about adding a signature to a
Blue label CGC book turning it into a yellow or red label CBCS Slab.

Sorry to complicate this but The wheels are
turning

I guess without the cooperation of the other companies the census will only ever be just a approximation

Well I guess it’s better than nothing.

Every time a book is graded or regraded, it gets a new serial number as it is part of a new invoice. The cgc census has been jacked for years.

Plus you have to account for the fact that not everyone sends in the original label if they crack & resubmit.

@Nuffsaid111 but I'm generally with you on vanity labels...not really my cup of tea either. Creator labels could be interesting though. I do agree with Steve Borock when he said the label shouldn't compete with the book but some of these creators are so important that maybe a tasteful vanity label could be pretty cool.

I think I know the answer, but I have got to ask.

I have a Vampirella Zero that is in the original poly-bag.

It has three Signatures and a cert #.

But, the signatures and cert # is written on the poly-bag.

If I send this in to be graded and VSP, the book will be taken out of the bag and graded.

But, can the comic, be put back in the bag with the signatures and get a red label?

We can VSP this, but it may have to go SLAB ONLY or the Beckett route as its a bag, let me double check for you....

Somewhere in a thread I can't find right now, there was a discrepancy between someone (I think @Darryl_H) saying that the April discount code would apply to the whole order and someone else saying that a CBCS customer service email said it would only apply to grading (going from memory). Did that ever get clarified or sorted out?

Hey @xkonk you may be thinking of this comment posted by MutantMania in the
Submission/Discount Question thread:

According to the email I got today from Pam at CBCS the 15% discount only applies to the grading and NOT the total amount of the invoice. I was kind of bummed since it was stated otherwise in this thread.

@Murmonster that's what I was thinking of. Is there any follow-up? Has anyone sent anything in and already been billed for it?

@Darryl_H I have a few questions regarding the Slab-Only service I’ve been trying to get clear answers about for weeks now:

1) Until the website is updated, how should customers wishing to use this service notate all the proper information on the invoice? Should they add Verification to add the name and will billing know to discount the verification fee?

2) Since there are no Blue (or yellow) Slab-only options, how does CBCS handle the “Encapsulate if Verification fails” option? Will CBCS grade and slab the book like a normal grading submission?

3) If they’re getting 2 signatures verified using the slab-only option, how does CBCS price the second signature? Is it $15 as subsequent VSP signatures are? Or is it $25?

4) Do Slab-Only books count as VSP submissions as far as promos go, for example the current $5 off signature verification promo? Or do they only count if you're paying for subsequent signatures?

@xkonk I have not seen any follow-up myself. I trust what MutantMania posted as he did submit and was told by CBCS that the 15% applies only to grading.

@Murmonster Seems most likely. I sent in my order so I made the choice either way, but it would be cool to get 15% off pressing too.

Ya'know the nice thing about the custom ("vanity" labels is you don't HAVE TO pay extra and get them. If the regular label works for you save the $$ and skip.

But for the most part the custom labels with CGC seem to attract eyes to a book. And a few actually look pretty cool. At least to some collectors.

And if CBCS did this they would have a chance to do it better. I am certain that CGC's custom labels would be selected FAR MORE OFTEN except that CGC treats the custom labels as a separate shipment and invoice. Another $5 invoice fee. Another package and extra shipping charges.

So if one is submitting a mixed lot of books and would like the Spider-Man labels for a couple of their ASM's they have to pay separate shipping for those books.

CBCS already combines shipments of different tiers, so they could easily one up CGC here.

Perhaps CGC has some exclusive deal with Marvel, perhaps not. But their is DC, Image and a bunch of smaller publishers that could make some nice custom labels. I bet many Rick and Morty fans would love a custom label. I'm thinking the Savage Dragon and Spawn fans would be the same

I do however agree with the basic idea that the label should not compete with the book encapsulated. Compliment yes.

@Darryl_H

Could you please look into something for me on my order, 20-131C87C.

When I sent it in, I have my payment by my Credit Card.

When CBCS sent my a copy of the invoice, the payment was changed to Personal Check.

After looking back in my banking statement, I see where the payment was collected on 4/18/20.

My concern is that the web page is showing my order is still in billing.

Would you please let me know the status of this order?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Here's my idea for CBCS and Custom Labels. Commission someone older and beloved like Steranko to design a custom label for Restored and Preserved books. That way you take the sting out of getting a Restored grade by giving people the consolation prize of the custom Steranko label that can only be obtained by getting a Restored grade.
Assuming it were really cool, I wonder how many people would re-slab CGC restored books just to get the custom label from CBCS.
