So the left side of the banner shows the Capitalist countries path of talent and the right side shows the socialist side where the talented get helped to this path.

@BrianGreensnips love the banners, especially the first one. Is this for a specific project? Just curious.

He is a senior in high school and he has won a state competition for another piece he did for his graphic design class. I think he has a gift for color and tone and I think he would be good at commercial advertising. He has made all kinds of Lord of the Rings t shirts and pop culture items. He currently works at a business that does team school jackets and t shirts. He has learned a lot about graphic design. I put in a request for a Winston Churchill piece. Currently his high school instructor has given him free reign of the class and he can make almost anything he wants. How cool is that.

@BrianGreensnips Without a doubt your son is very talented and I can imagine you are very proud. If he decides to do prints let us know. I would be interested in one of the first banner. Truly the limit of every persons reality is their mind.

I hope your son gets a scholarship and can continue to grow. All the best!

I remember this myself, if he applies he can get scholarships many places. Tell the young man to keep a good portfolio and give it to anyone that is interested. It may not be an “art” school but he can put a dent in it for sure.

He had an interview today for a scholarship in front of about 6 adults from a comittee. They narrowed it down between him and ironically our neighbor's kid.

I thought this was going to complain about Russian comic collectors starting threads that are hard to understand.

Thanks for the kind words. I will talk with him to see if he might consider doing some commissions.

LOL, I too was thinking of Russian spam bots posting "Lock her up" over and over. Siggy, we just hijacked a thread about Russian posters...the irony drips off the computer screen.

@BrianGreensnips Is he taking the original posters and making banners out of them for the project?

Those 3 are from existing material but he also does some original work. For all his graded school work and material that is submitted for competitions those have to be original work. I will post some of those later today.

This poster made me think if an NPR story from a Soviet Scientist. During the Cold War he got to travel to Europe for a science event. Basically he said that after being there about a week he understood why the "Central Planning" model of Communism was doomed. In the European labs he saw they could order chemicals or equipment and it would be delivered to the lab 3 days later. In Russia they had to request lab materials through the once-per-year requisition and hope that it made it up the chain and was deemed worthy by the central planners. The annual requisition also created a conflict between scientists trying to order excess for unforeseen needs and allocaters trying to figure out what potential waste they could cut out of the orders. So what might take 2 months to accomplish in a European lab could take 3-4 years to finish in a Soviet lab.
