Best and Worst Comic Movie Casting Choices10048
Masculinity takes a holiday. | EbayMafia private msg quote post Address this user
The other day I heard an interview with Maggie Gyllenhaal and it reminded me what an atrocious casting choice she was for "Rachel" in The Dark Knight. Dull, whiny, no charisma, not really attractive enough for the role. It was really hard to accept her as the "true love" of dashing billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne and, if I remember correctly, Gotham's other most eligible bachelor, Harvey Dent. She brought nothing to the movie and I think most of the audience was happy to know that Batman would end up saving Harvey Dent when faced with the Jokers quandry. On the other hand, I thought that Michael Shannon as General Zodd absolutely owned the role. His depiction gave me a whole new appreciation for General Zodd, a man who was genetically bred for the sole purpose of being the defender of Krypton and protector of the Kryptonian future. Just for conversation, who were your favorite and/or least favorite casting choices for comic movies on the big screen? |

My older brother might be the only person in the world who liked Maggie G. as Rachel Dawes. Awful replacement. Best: - Heath Ledger as the Joker. - RDJ as Iron Man. - Chris Evans as Cap. - Michael Shannon as Zod. - Ben Affleck as TDKR. - Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. - Jason Momoa as Aquaman. - Josh Brolin as Thanos. Worst: - Maggie G. as Rachel Dawes. - Terrence Howard as James Rhodes. - Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. - Jared Leto as the Joker. - David Thewlis as Ares. - Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One. - Guy Pearce as "The Mandarin". - Joss Whedon as Co-Director. |

Ryan Reynolds as GL was atrocious. Clooney as Batman I absolutely hated. Many of the Marvel castings were dead-on like Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans was a superior Cap, and basically the entire Black Panther cast was phenomenal. Just as in everything, this is all highly subjective.

It's a movie....we suspend reality. If we can handle Clark Kent standing up straight, taking off his glasses and putting a curl in his hair and somehow no one anywhere is like hey!!! that's Clark, the guy I've been working beside for years - then we can handle a batman without stupid gravel voice. But then this is more of a bad direction or vision - not really the actors fault for doing what they were told to do. |

I've always thought that casting Patrick Stewart as Professor X was one of the best casting decisions ever. And in my mind, there will never be another Wolverine. Hugh Jackman owns that role!!!

Quote:Originally Posted by Jesse_O @Jesse_O Agree 100% on Patrick Stewart/Professor X!! I'm torn about Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. I agree he is a very good Wolverine but I think maybe that's because we haven't seen a different live action interpretation yet. He's good but he's also different from the comic Wolverine. I feel like, if/when Marvel recasts Wolverine, and a possible more comic accurate one, it might make Jackman's Wolverine look less good. Just a feeling I have. |

@GAC I get what you are saying about Jackman. I just can't see anyone who would have done it better. If/when that happens, I'll be all for it!! But whoever it is has some pretty big shoes to fill IMO.
