Scratch all that comic advice.

Save the $400, sell another $400 or so worth of books and you will have enough dough to get one of the sorts of 'lil doggies in my avatar.

Toy rat terriers are fiesty, and very fun, dogs.πŸ™‹πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

I kicked off this thread than went to bed. Thanks for all the info and suggestions everyone. A few people asked what I like. Probably my favorite all time series Are Preacher and Transmetropolitan, but I have full runs and decent grades of both. Favorite marvel super hero books, with the caveat-ive given up on them, are x men, asm, daredevil. Favorite dc, pretty much just batman and gl.
I've always wanted a gsx or a as 129, but I gotta keep saving for both. I love old ec horror covers. I appreciate all the solicitations too. I really just mostly wanted to see what others would do. If you had 400 You could spend guilt free on a comic (s) investment, what are you buying?
Thanks everyone

If you are into non-superhero, I personally think this is a fantastic Sgt. Rock cover, not a key really, but the cover is so unique and eye catching. It is very hard to find for sale in high grade slabbed, but is easily under $400.

If you can find a CGC or CBCS 9.8 for under $250.00. Do it.

Current going rate is about $300. There is one signed by Giffen on Ebay and the asking price is an astonishing $1500.00

Be careful though. Some on Ebay try to make you think the book they are selling is a CBCS or CGC graded book, and it is not. They are just throwing "search words" into titles. Like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Omega-Men-3-NM-MT-9-8-HILLTOP-PEDIGREE-COLL-1ST-APP-LOBO-CBCS-SUPERMAN/173281502813?hash=item285861e65d:g:wXEAAOSw7Bda24wr

@conditionfreak I have a 9.6 Omega Men 3, is it worth an upgrade?

As for getting something I genuinely like, the last time I had "extra" paypal money, I bought a graded Comico Primer 2, because I always wanted one and Grendel was also one of my favorite books. So my spending is not always rational or financially motivated, ha.

I guess this time I was looking for something that is gonna hold value, that may already be getting pricey, that maybe someday i could flip.

I saw a spiderman suggestion and i do have an ASM 300 in 9.4, a ASM 361 9.6

What about avenging spiderman 9? There are raws in the 200-250 range, do others think that will hold value? Or does it crash after the initial movie hype?

How about early Swamp thing? I didn't look at those yet, and I have always enjoyed that book and its covers.

Yeah, I should have been more specific.

*a single horror/shock/graphic violence/drug use/racial issue EC book.

I would put all of those books you posted into a third to 4th tier category of EC's.

Books like Shock Suspense 6,12...decapatation, VOH, TFTC and some Crime Suspebstories,Mad 1, Frazetta weird Sci Fi covers etc.... in 1st tier EC's.

Second tier would be a mix of sci-fi and their magazine crime/suspense illustrated mag books...along with Psychoanalysis 1-4.

Everything else like the bible picture stories, Valor and so on would get 3rd-4th tier, based on desirability/signifigance and grade.

I only partially agree. I'll take a Gaines File Copy any day of the week. No matter which tier you put them in.

Good point. There is something cool about owning a copy that Gaines himself owned, at one point.

About as close to getting Gaines' signature as you can get.

If you purchase one with the COA, you get the Gaines signature. I lucked out and have several.

90 day GPA average is a good price, which is $252....so $250 is the sweet spot.

You may be able to get one cheaper, but I wouldn't count on that.

I have a single raw copy which will be a 9.8 once it's slabbed.

I'm going to put $550 on it, when it's slabbed, and just wait.

If I end up getting a 9.6, I'll put $275 on it and wait.

Than again, I won't be subbing it in til Baltimore in September, the movie may show some movement by than so it at be selling for $550+ in 9.8 already.

Either way, Lobo has a pretty large fan base and this book has never had a truly signifigant mass media shot to the arm price hike.

Once some actual Lee way is made on this book, not just the small transient-ish spike it had a few months back from a rumor about a movie....it'll be selling for at least double it's current FMV.

Lobo is DC's Deadpool, never mind he that he came around 6 years before Deadpool.

I think this book will end up settling at around $650; after the trailers hit.

Black diamonds and pearls, mah man....

If I Ruled the World (Imagine That) by Nas,featuring Lauryn Hill.

Life
I wonder
Will it take me under
I don't know
Imagine smoking weed in the streets without cops harassin'
Imagine going to court with no trial
Lifestyle cruising blue behind my waters
No welfare supporters, more conscious of the way we raise our daughters
Days are shorter, nights are colder
Feeling like life is over, these snakes strike like a cobra
The world's hot my son got not
Evidently, it's elementary, they want us all gone eventually
Troopin' out of state for a plate, knowledge
If coke was cooked without the garbage we'd all have the top dollars
Imagine everybody flashin', fashion
Designer clothes, lacing your click up with diamond vogues
Your people holdin' dough, no parole
No rubbers, go in raw imagine, law with no undercovers
Just some thoughts for the mind
I take a glimpse into time
Watch the blimp read, "The World Is Mine"
If I ruled the world, imagine that
I'd free all my sons, I love 'em love 'em baby
Black diamonds and pearls
Could it be, if you could be mine we'd both shine
If I ruled the world

Still livin' for today, in these last days and times
The way to be, paradise like relaxin', Black, Latino and Anglo-Saxon
Armani, exchange the reins
Cash, Lost Tribe of Shabazz, free at last
Brand new whips to crash then we laugh in the ill'er path
The Villa house is for the crew, how we do
Trees for breakfast, dime sexes and Benz stretches
So many years of depression make me vision
The better livin', type of place to raise kids in
Open they eyes to the lies, history's told foul
But I'm as wise as the old owl, plus the Gold Child
Seeing things like I was controlling, click rollin'
Trickin' six digits on kicks and still holdin'
Trips to Paris, I civilized every savage
Gimme one shot I turn trife life to lavish
Political prisoner set free, stress free
No work release purple M3's and jet skis
Feel the wind breeze in West Indies
I'd make Coretta Scott-King mayor o'the cities and reverse themes to Willies
It sounds foul but every girl I meet to go downtown
I'd open every cell in Attica send em to Africa
If I ruled the world, imagine that
I'd free all my sons, I love 'em love 'em baby
Black diamonds and pearls
Could it be, if you could be mine we'd both shine
If I ruled the world

Still livin' for today, in these last days and times
And then we'll walk right up to the sun
Hand in hand
We'll walk right up to the sun
We won't land
We'll walk right up to the sun
Hand in hand
We'll walk right up to the sun
We won't land
You'd love to hear the story how the thugs live in worry
Duck down in car seats, heat's mandatory
Runnin' from Jake, gettin' chased, hunger for papes
These are the breaks, many mistakes go down out of state
Wait, I had to let it marinate we carry weight
Tryin' to get laced, flip the ace stack, the safe
Millionaire plan to keep the gat with the cock hammer
Makin' moves in Atlanta, back and forth scrambler
'Cause you could have all the chips, be poor or rich
Still nobody want a n**** havin' shit
If I ruled the world and everything in it, sky's the limit
I push a Q-4-5 infinite
It wouldn't be no such thing as jealousies or be felony
Strictly living longevity to the destiny
I thought I'd never see, but reality struck
Better find out before your time's out, what the f***
If I ruled the world, imagine that
I'd free all my sons, I love 'em love 'em baby
Black diamonds and pearls
Could it be, if you could be mine we'd both shine
If I ruled the world
Still livin' for today, in these last days and times
If I ruled the world, if I ruled, if I ruled
I'd free all my sons, if I ruled, if I ruled
Black diamonds and pearls, black diamonds, black diamonds

Could it be, if you could be mine, we'd both shine
If I ruled the world
Still livin' for today, in these last days and times
If I ruled the world, if I ruled, if I ruled
I'd free all my sons, black diamonds
I love em love em baby
Black diamonds and pearls, if I ruled
If I ruled the world
If I ruled the world
I love em love em baby

Is the 90 day average an actual average? Because then by definition you should be able to get higher and lower than the average.

What else what it be?

The 90 day average in GPA for CGC 9.8 Univetsal is $252.

Low sale for 2018 was just over $150, with the highest sale in 2018 at just over $350.The arrows are gteen, across the board, in all grafes; the price is trending upward.

So yeah, odds of getting a 9.8 below $250 are not favorable i.e. slim to none....The book has been consistent at $250+ since the movie rumor kicked in.

$250 IMHO, is a good value( buy in price) for this book in 9.8.

Just checked recent sales of 9.8's on eBay.

Last 3 sales were all auction formats.

$274... $260... $301.01

2 dumb asses have the lowest prices on this book right now, both bin or BO's.

CGC 9.8 $274.95
CBCS 9.8 $27460

Odds are one of those guys will take $260+ shipping.

All other listing are around $300 BIN's; most don't have BO'S available.

Funny thing is if those 2 guys just put BIN's at the same prices they have now with no best offer, they'd probably sell at full sticker.

Leaving the going rate at $300+ for 9.8's.

Here's another book from 1958 that Jack Kirby did for DC that is very hard to find in nicer grades, but is somewhat considered to be a prototype for the Fantastic Four that Kirby and Lee created 3 years later for Marvel.
Here's the copy I had and sold about 3 years ago.

Here's a close-up of the notation on the label.

Another goodie like this book is Tales Of The Unexpected #16.

Character named "Thor"; story is called "Magic Hammer" or something like that....that story is a legit prototype of Thor with Jack Kirby art

I've been after copies of this book for a few years; been looking for raws with nice PQ, that I can clean and press to get 8.0's out of.

Been at least 3 years, haven't seen any cherry HG's yet.

I was actually about to list one of them on eBay tomorrow...probably won't list the nicer copies til I press them, though.

Got 3 of them...A GD, and 2 copies around FN.

CGC label on graded copies of this book notates something like:

"character named Thor by Kirby, predates JIM 83"

Anyone interested, LMK if ya want pics/scans; I'd sell any 1 of them.

Hell, I'd sell all of them.πŸ˜‚

That listing is flat out ridiculous.

Besides the fact that the seller wants $200 for a raw copy of a BS self appointed "pedigree collection", I really....nah, that's pretty much it.

Really just surprised to see a seller in Florida hawking a "pedigree collection" drivel...that "originated" in a town about 4 miles from my home, in Cherry Hill NJ.

If anything remotely resembling a pedigree collection magically surfaced in my area, I would have heard about it from all of the local dealers that I know.
