Comics Golden AgeGrading Help Needed

Please Grade Me - Superman #766234

Collector Darkga private msg quote post Address this user
On today's episode of please grade me...

Superman #76 (1952) - 1st Batman/Superman team-up

This was such a beautiful book with such potential BUT has what looks like moisture stains and a monster crease on the back cover. Give it to me straight, what do you think it would grade?

My guess from looking at the pictures is its an 6.5 to 7.0
I could be wrong, wont be the first time.
Beautiful Book ! Thanks for sharing !

6.5/7.0.

Pressing would raise it to a solid 8.0, from what I can see.

6.5-7.0 with a press

If the crease doesnt come out without breaking color 5.0

Hard to say what the graders will do to you on those stains 😑

Assuming the moisture stain is on an inside page on not on either cover, I will say 7.0. Fortunately, the bc crease does not appear to break color. A press will get you to 8.0 land. That's a very glossy book!

That crease is a dealer breaker, maybe tops at a 6.0 depending on the severity of the stains.

Improve the crease; 7.5, otherwise 6.5

I'm leaning toward 5.0 as it sits. You have convinced me to press it though if only to make it look better.

Golden age gets better grades than newer, I have benefited from that time and again. Silver, you would be correct.

Looks like Lois is about to be sandwiched by The World's Finest.

Suh-weet book! The page tanning is the biggest problem. Should grade out in the 5.5 to 6 range.

I'd say an 8.0 if you can press out that crease. It's a pretty book. I'm not convinced those are moisture stains, though. Could just be just dirt stains from fingers, 50 years ago? Anyway, they seem pretty minor. The cover is fantastic. A little worried about the top staple, but it's probably fine.

There is definitely water staining and some rippling on the R orner of the front cover, I didn't see that earlier.

The interior staining is not dirt based.

This book def would benefit from a press, greatly.

8.0 w/pressing may be pushing it, but not put of the question.

5.5/6.0 as is w/the rippling, fold etc.

Thanks for the input guys! It's off to be pressed, and I'll update you all once I get it back from grading.

I subbed it across the street to maximize the selling market in light of biased buyers, and after a press the results are in. The back cover crease although pressed out was still detectable, and that discoloration in the top right of the front was indeed a stain. So close to a high grade, but off to the chopping block it goes.

Very important book. Superman died in the previous issue.

Wow. Apparently I am way out of the ballpark on this one. I would give it a 4.0/4.5 as is.

If I remember right my call was 5.5 or 6 if the pages were white.

Whenever there's a tide mark, a clearly delineated borderline surrounding an area, you can consider it a stain or water damaged area, and the grade will be impacted appropriately by and relatively to the severity of it.
