Unfortunately being Action 1000 and the hype surronding it, and knowing Middleton can do better, it's not compelling me to buy it.
yeah. It's better.. If it was just superman without all those hyper saturated colours stuff in the background is almost a milestone appropriate cover. Haha.

But full points at least for not having him simply standing in a weird pose or sitting

Got to admit, kind of disappointed in these covers (which it seems everyone is a little as well). The Del Otto and Middleton look like the best options and they aren't "amazing" to me... Very shocked seen as how this is issue ONE THOUSAND!

This is the Zoolander version of Superman.

I think D.C. Tried too hard on this milestone. A simple homage cover of issue #1, or homage covers by multiple artists of famous covers of the previous 999 issues, would have sufficed. Missed the target/over thought this one. Too bad. Hope Detective Comics 1000 gets it right.

Damn guess I’m going to hopefully just the Fabok cover.

Do you think Supes has to report his flight paths that are under 50 ft, to the FAA?

@conditionfreak I'm guessing Lex Luthor? Still can't get over these covers.@Drogio said it best, they over thought the milestone.

That is the only good part of this cover. The classic Lex Luthor suit!

You know you're a child product of the 80s if you know this to be Lex Luthor! I knew it right away....Was this suit only used on superfriends, or was it part of comic continuity too?

Oh, definitely the regular continuity first. I remember (vaguely) the issues. Superman had beaten Lex pretty definitively, and Lex blamed him even more due to some calamity he'd just brought down on himself. So he was really pissed as I recall, way more than before. He built the suit, and then constructed a new headquarters - a man-made island somewhere, from whence to plot his revenge.

At least, I think that's it. I'll have to go back and find those issues. Maybe it was the anniversary issue below? (Now THAT'S how you do a special cover.)

For #1000, how would you feel about a cover showing Superman between either pictures or portraits of young Siegel and Shuster ?

@Tedsaid

You sound like you are recapping the movies, except for the suit....

Interestingly enough, the suit hasn't made it to the movies yet.

IMO DT....there can be many associations to why or what should be on the cover and if we just play it out....there may be something good after all.

For me....believe it or not....I sort of like a four-color look....and the #1000 with the AC1 profile below it.....might be the one I eventually would buy if offered....thus far.

Not even sure if it will be produced, but for a milestone....that one is getting closer for me.

I just cant believe people are preferring the generic “image not available” image to the actual images of the cover. And they arent wrong 🤦🏼‍♂️

That "ad" shows the patriotism of Supes. Devotion. Keeping up the hard work, in order to see and....for the milestone, yet hasn't forgotten where he came from either.

If they stay in that line of thinking....it could be good.

Face it...they should have just stopped at 999 and rebooted. No matter how good of a cover they put out, it will never live up to expectations of what we all think issue 1000 should be.

But these are still bad even for issues 1-999...

Ok, we get Alex Ross to do the cover based on this design.
Sometimes a collaboration can get better results than singular attempts. 🐕 🐕

Ug. Is it even finished? It looks like he really phoned in the clip-art Superman.

This issue must be cursed. Even artists I like, even great artists, are screwing this one up. Here are two more, by Nicola Scott (kind of bad) and Tony Daniel (kind of okay).

I think the main cover, variant A, is still the best (by default). I also like the Jock one, and the one by Fabok. Dell'Otto would be the winner, IMO, if not for the unfortunate bulge.
