I was a major EC geek back when he gifted it to me (Houstoncon '74). Actually, more of a geek in every way, including appearance. (...well, there is my avatar)

I first met Al at a southwestern convention in '73. Like any EC fan with artistic ambitions, I made the gesture of offering him a sketch in the hopes of receiving approval from an artist whose work I revered. He was appreciative and more impressed by my work than I'd imagined, but refused to accept the illustration unless I'd accept something he'd done.

So, the following year he brought along a Secret Agent X-9 (Corrigan) daily and personalized it to me at the Houston show. As it turned out I'd brought along an EC homage (oil) I'd done during the year which he liked and graciously agreed to pose with...

Even before me. I started in 1977.
