Question about the Crypt3523

Collector keefriffhards private msg quote post Address this user
Why are horror comics much less expensive to collect... is there still some 'weirdo' spin to do with the genre, even though people like Stephen King did much to promote this area...

When you say less expensive compared to what? To other genre books of the same time frame? EC's and Atlas horror books always go for over guide and some of the Atlas books if a copy comes up and it looks good you better buy it if you want it because it could be quite some time before another comes up.

I just saw a Tales From the Crypt in 9.2 for $1,300 on eBay.. granted that amount can buy someone a car or a vacation but it will not get you very far looking for 9.0 or higher in Detective Comics or Batman (early issues)... looks oddly like the grades available in that field (Tales from the Crypt) provide a lot of 9.0 and above, if you have the money.

You just used "$1300" and "much less expensive" in the same context?

Except for the hosts which only introduce the stories, you aren't seeing reoccurring characters.

EC comics sell for a nice amount.

Not just ECs- lots of books in the genre are quite expensive. Most don't command thousands, but books run hundreds in even vg condition.

With about 1400 books from the golden age in the horror category it will cost a pretty penny to get decent copies of even a small percentage. And some are very difficult to get a hold of.

Ha... I meant:

Tales from the Crypt 9.0. $1300. (you could possibly get this
if you ask everyone you know you want it for Christmas to pool their money... ok, maybe not)

Action Comics #1: No matter what grade, it ain't never, ever going to happen unless you win some lottery.
95% of Golden age comics I assume are out of reach now to most people, so that is why I have decided to focus on Silver Age in 5.0 or lower.

PS. Imagine what Action Comics #1 in 9.0 would go for...
I am glad if there is no stigma to Horror Comics since I love horror and walking dead and 48 days later etc.

PPS. I just bought a Detective Comics in 1.0 ungraded with tape all over the back of the front cover and water staining.... and found out that it is unlikely I can get it pressed since then (I assume) the water staining will look weird (?). I see that really, to assemble more than 4 or 5 Golden Age DC's in 1.0 or 2.0 can cost a pretty penny, or (as someone said) a good snipe on eBay and a lucky moment and then a surprise grade up-tic after a nice pressing. I felt that if you can get a 9.0 Tales from the Crypt for $1300 then I assume you could get a 1.0 or 2.0 one for $100... just right!.. but maybe I'm living in dreamland..

Apples and Oranges. That's like saying that you wish Richard Nixon had been as influential as George Washington.

I love Tales from the Crypt and missed growing up in the 50's where you could see a good horror or Sci-Fi movie at a drive-in while eating junk food. Look at how celebrated Spiderman, Superman and Batman are... but you don't see them celebrating the Crypt Keeper... I still think comic to comic that your money goes further collecting Tales from the Crypt than Action Comics or other DC Comics... people who watch and love the X Files are still a smaller group than those who watch more mainstream shows on TV also...

After watching that, I get the impression that death lives. I hope I'm not wrong about that.

keep up with them.

Yikes. I was going to say, except for the reprints the EC Horror titles are not cheap to collect. I finally shelled out a pretty penny to just get an original Tales from the Crypt (probably about 4.0) intact to just say I had one.
