New Mutants #48 Newsstand Jeweler Variant2683

Collector 00slim private msg quote post Address this user
I picked up a small lot on e-Bay, nothing special except a low grade Sub-Mariner #1.

In the lot, I also found this. A Newsstand edition of New Mutants #48. Not a key or anything, but when I opened it to inspect it, I found out it has the Jeweler insert, indicating (as far as I know) that it was sold on a military base.

The thing is, there isn't even a Jeweler edition listed on Mile High's website. And, I can't find another one in e-Bay.

Was the Jeweler insert included with all Newsstand editions of this book?

Any insight would be appreciated.

So what's the deal with the jewellery ads on military bases? Were they trying to encourage soldiers to get married?

Get outta my head, Beyoncé!

I find it odd this variant isn't listed on Mile High's website. They've never sold one?

Too bad it's not a key issue.

Wouldnt worry too much. Sweet cover. Man reminds me of x-men adventures in the 90's with the sentinal.

They are pretty rare though. Most didnt survive as depending on the base, comics were just tossed around like magazines. So that one looks like it was loved. Nice find man.

High grade Newsstand Mark Jewelers are extremely rare.

It's probably Fine. Might qualify as a 7.0, but 6.0 minimum.

Maybe Not high grade, but in lower grades they often seem better preserved possibly as a result of having essentially a backing board in the center of the book.

Would this book be worth pressing & slabbing for sale?

I notice it was oddly cut along the top at the printer.

Well, that would be up to you good sir. What does a raw one go for? The MJ variant I think only adds on a slight premium.

If I got an Iron Fist 1st Sabretooth price variant with the mj insert cbcs would be getting it asap for pressing, cleaning, and grading lol.

I can't find this particular book with an insert for comparison. On average, books from this series don't see significant jumps when they have an insert.

I'm just wondering if, since I can't find another one of these, if it's particularly rare.

Mark Jeweler's inserts are cool but National Diamonds inserts are where it's at those 1970's lingerie pictures are better then a Sears catalog.

A key such as Iron Man #55 or an ASM #129 will fetch a 10-15% premium from the few sales I've seen, but a "common" book with insert is probably only of interest to an MJI collector. I wouldn't bother slabbing unless it was for your own collection. As for pressing, what grade do you think you'd bump it to? A 9.2 in OPG is probably only $4-5.

I'd figure 9.2 is realistic.

You're right, it probably isn't worth it.
