Anyone know how hard it is to clean a white cover? I've got a few that I am going to sub and I just KNOW I am going to get dinged for that

Upside down actually lol

If you are using photobucket, you can forget it. Dunno what's up with them lately, but I am considering using a different site.

Suggestions?

Use Paint. It's easier.

You have to modify the actual pic, not just how the viewer presents it...therein lies the problem.

Dry cleaning’s main purpose is to remove dirt or pencil from a cover, particularly in the white areas. Dry cleaning does not remove tanning, stains, pen or marker, sun shadows or foxing. If we feel your book’s grade would benefit from a dry cleaning, we will automatically perform this during the press process.

Here's an additional statement about the types of cleaning:

Because cleaning a comic book skirts the line between “restored” and “unrestored” it is important to distinguish the types of cleaning available. There are three types: dry, solvent and water. Dry removes dirt and soiling, while solvent helps remove tape, some stains and yellowing. Water cleaning rids covers of tanning, wrinkling and most stains.

Now to figure out how much it costs to have books cleaned and pressed before submission

It has cost me as low as $10 and as high as $15 a book when I've had books done, depending on who was doing them.

So a quick modern press with a sub of 15 books and over is $8 per book?

You bet, I am pretty certain Doc and Ditch can offer much more information. That's just been my experience.

So say you submit a bunch of books, and just pay for the pressing/cleaning but some books really don't need it. Do they go through the motions anyways? Like give it a quick wipe, or just tell you it's not worth it and reimburse you?

If I were you I'd have them all done if this is about the books you will be having Sam sign. The opportunity doesn't come up often so IMO an extra $10 or so a book to improve my odds at the best grade possible and to remove any hidden fingerprints I may get dinged for is worth it.

I am not the worlds best grader, and thanks for the input. I think just doing it up front might be better instead of cracking it out a few years later to have it done, like I was considering before

I'd do it now as well. Doing it later with the hopes of improving the grade would only add on an additional grading fee.

Yes, I was just made aware that you can get a book signed and then have it pressed and cleaned before grading. It's a good combo.

I guess I'll have to add a prescreen on to that?
