On Star Wars 42 first appearance of Boba Fett. What is the difference between square price and issue number and diamond price and issue number? I've seen them both listed as 1st prints. Is that accurate?

Square was used on newsstand editions & diamond was direct edition

Basically the same, but newsstand editions from back in the day had a lower survival rate because of the abuse they were prone to.

"Direct Edition"? What's that? As a kid I bought mine from the local drug store or 7-11 and Comic Book shops.

Thank you DarthLego!!!!!!!!!! That was one interesting read. I started collecting in 1967 and quit in 1982. I bought about 90% from the local drug store or 7-11 and about 10% from comic book stores. walking a mile was easier then driving 20 miles, parking, PAYING for parking and finding nothing new had came in. So most of what I have I bought off the racks and worth more that the ones I bought from the comic book store. Interesting...very interesting.

Thanks for leading me down the rabbit hole DarthLego! I feel like my original question was: Do I want the red pill or the blue pill?

REALLY hoping CBCS does their census right and includes barcode vs spideyhead books!

@watcher check out the link Darth posted, in regard to your question on the other thread about destruction. Theres some good info showing some years where newsstand was the lions share of sales, and most of newsstand stuff was thrown out or read 100x
