Sooooooo my 2 books coming back are.....1372

COLLECTOR Wolverine private msg quote post Address this user
9.0 for my Wolverine #1 signed by Frank Miller and

9.4 Batman #1 signed by Greg Capullo and to be honest in totally fine with that.

The wolverine is a 35 year old book and I've had it for over 15 of those years and tue batman is just a few points off being in perfect condition. I'm fine with these grades.

I feel too many people strive for the 9.8's and are disappointed if they don't get it. I'm happy with my scores and am excited to get them back.

I'm with you, in your camp.

I sent off a SW#1 with Chaykin's signature on it, knowing it will come back as a "Qualified" book....thinking the grade will be about 9.0 - 9.2 due to age, and what I thought was some minor wear.

I was completely wrong.

I just rcvd word that it did get the "Qualified" label, but ended up being graded at a nice 9.6 (Qualified).

WHEW-WHEW!!

Now that is what I am talking about folks!

Did you send it to the cgc?

Yep.....I am quite surprised....

This tells me two things.....that I cannot grade visually on what to expect....*smiles*.....OR.....CGC is handing me a bone!

;o)

I am quite pleased no matter.

Popcorn.

I'd also be curious if it's your grading or if CGC is shooting for more repeat customers being generous.

I'm not really a repeat customer....because I submit my books through another third party dealer.

In the overall scheme of things.....instead of me handling the service fees that include membership level, shipping costs, insurance during shipping, and the cost to grade, my out the door price for anything modern is $30.00 plus tax per book.

Right now, this is the best I have to go on, but it works for us both.

Now, before it gets to crazy, that doesn't mean that I am staying in the CGC camp....because I am beginning to like what I have read and seen here in the CBCS forums, so I am thinking of enlisting into the CBCS family and begin a new round here as well as within CGC.

I'd love to see what some of the books I have and the grades they would pull here in CBCS.

Soon.....soon.

Instead of getting a qualified did you consider to do the verified cbcs service?

Yes...but I had submitted it before I fou,d out about this site, so I let it fky, knowing I'm getting a grade that is authenticated. After all, that is the bottom line....an authenticated book, which is now "preserved" if kept in the right conditions.

I'm beginning to lean away from CGC and get my own sub membership, now that this service is available.

On the flip side, I do niece a Qualified SW1 28th Chaykin's Mark on it will be desirable. And being it for a 9.6....maybe even a little bit more.

Wher would you pay for a book, like that?....nothing will phase me, really.

Thanks!

Here ya go....I hope you saved some popcorn. Chaykin's Sig is bottom left in gold ink.

It came back with another submission of Punisher #1 Young variant, which also is 9.6. That will be a Xmas gift for one of my sons...along with a Pop Punisher and a nice Marvel jersey set.

Cheers

BTW...I'd Be interested in what the field thinks on a FMV for the book.

I'm guessing with the signature, as Qualified and not SS, it would still pull in $300+.
I was also wondering if this would be a good candidate to....

- break the clan and resubmit to CBCS for authenticating and grading, and if the Will break the clan before the commence?

Anyone have some help for me?
Thanks in advance.

If you sell it still in the cgc green label of death, the buyer will likely crack it, press it, and submit it to CBCS under the Verified Signature Program.

That is what I was thinking....what would that cost be?
Post 19 IP   flag post
COLLECTOR dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
@ZosoRocks Signature verification is $26 on top of the regular grading fee for the first signature, $15 for each additional signature.
Post 20 IP   flag post
COLLECTOR BigRig private msg quote post Address this user
It's 25$ on top of the fee
Post 21 IP   flag post
COLLECTOR BigRig private msg quote post Address this user
So $25 + tier ($16 modern member pricing) plus s&h not sure what s&h is
Post 22 IP   flag post
Collector ZosoRocks private msg quote post Address this user
So I would be looking at....$26 + $16 = $42.00.

Hmmm...not too bad, since I have only $35.00 into the book so far.

Interesting.

Thanks BR for the info.

You might as well throw in another $20-$30 for shipping to & from.
Post 24 IP   flag post
Collector ZosoRocks private msg quote post Address this user
Understood. So I am looking at about $60-70 initial cost.....if I include my CGC costs, I'm looking at about $100.00 total cost. Considering it will sell for x2-x3 that price, it maybe a good deal to do.

Thanks to all for the input.

What I did notice, without looking at the grading notes, and not sure if this even matters, but the cover is not "centered".

Does the grading company consider this as a minor, major or null defect?

Considering the grade it received and looking at the bottom left corner of the book, one can clearly see that the spine was not folded "accurately".

Is this one of the defects that CGC/CBCS have leniency on?

@ZosoRocks
It's a bindery issue.
They only take that into account on 9.9's & 10's.
Most collectors don't mind it much, unless it's really bad.

Gotcha. Thanks. You are this defect in mostly Marvel edition...I agree though...it doesn't faze me...just always wondered how it affects a grade.

Good deal.
