There were no comic shops in my neck of the woods either. By the early 80s I opened a wholesale account with Alternate Realities out of Maryland. I had to buy a minimum of 30(?) books each month but i got a big discount and all the books were delivered almost untouched by other grubby hands.

Jeff...Thank you for your kind words. The variety of my collection
came about as I was always on the lookout for first issues...not
because I ever thought they would be valuable but I just enjoyed
finding new characters. I was also limited in acquiring runs of
favorite titles by the selection and numbers of copies at the
newsstand or in the newsrooms. And, finally the lack of funds
kept me from buying many of my favorite titles.

Speaking of variety...how could I not buy these two issues that
were on the newsstand the same month?

This is the last new GOLDEN AGE comic I ever bought...ordered it
directly from EC...wish I had saved the mailer it came in.

Posted this on The Golden Age Comics thread in reference to the
DUKE OF DARKNESS character...just found out that the JCA on the
cover stands for JASON COMIC ART.

Great cover. I love how Knuckles and Jeff from the Young Allies were essentially recycled (along with the concept)by Simon and Kirby as Big Words and Scrapper mere months later in the Newsboy Legion.
